The TANYS Festival is the first step a company must take to reach the biennial National festival (AACTFest) which will be held in June 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky. Just as TANYS had to during the pandemic, AACTFest '21 was held virtually, but 2023 hopes to be in person: full of performances representing the winners of the 10 regions of the US and one representing the military. But you don’t need to be with a performing company - all are welcome! In addition to 12 performances, there are workshops galore to suit everyone’s tastes as well as vendors sharing their wares, a design exhibition and of course meet and greets with other theatre aficionados. AACTFest '23 also has a Youthfest component geared for 12-18 year olds (an additional 5 performances as part of the week)! More information is at AACT.org. One positive outcome of the pandemic is that AACT now offers virtual workshops and roundtables, available to members and non-members alike! Some titles include: Making Something Out of Nothing: Big Designs/ Tiny Budgets, Broadway Media, Season Selection, Board Development and many more - the calendar keeps growing. These roundtables and industry connections are hosted and taught by professionals and folks who understand the problems we face in community theatre. A monthly series just started is called the Script Club which will focus on a different script that's trending with community theatres. “The Play that Goes Wrong” and “School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play,” are on the calendar to be discussed - not just the words of the script but valuable information being shared on successful (or not) ways to mount these shows. More information on these webinars is at: AACT.org/webinars. Just as TANYS has a lot to offer to besides our tagline: Inspiring Excellence in Community Theatre, our connection to American Association of Community Theatre is just one way we can help. Bob Frame and Frances Ruoff from TANYS serve on the AACT Board; contact them if you'd like to discuss more.
